The pathophysiology of these processes, including the connection of symptoms with the glycemic profile, remains poorly understood. The relevance of the exact manifestation of the symptoms of gastrointestinal damage increases with concentration on the intestine, as a promising therapeutic target for lowering glycemia. This review discusses the prevalence, assessment, pathogenesis, and management of patients with diabetes and a concomitant gastrointestinal lesion, starting with general principles and ending with consideration of managing patients with lesions of specific sections of the gastrointestinal tract. The prevalence, pathophysiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment of patients with diabetes with damage to the esophagus, stomach and intestines are considered. side effects of gastrointestinal effects of sugar-lowering drugs are separately considered.
