The content of neurotransmitter amino acids in the cerebral cortex and in the hippocampus against the background of thyroid dysfunction in three age groups was also studied. It is established that the increase of glutamate in the neocortex and the hippocampus of old rats, which is probably related to the excitotoxic effect relative to spatial memory and anxiety of this age group. In juvenile and young rats, on the contrary, an increase in the inhibitory neurotransmitter amino acids, serotonin and glycine, was observed, which may have led to an improvement in the protective behavior in hyperthyroidism and deterioration in hypothyroidism.
